Bridgerton Star Nicola Coughlan’s Big Mood on Channel 4 to Return For Season 2?

Nicola Coughlan is set to return for Big Mood Season 2, continuing her role in the critically acclaimed buddy comedy that tackles mental health struggles with humor and heart.

Channel 4 has officially renewed the dark comedy-drama, created by Camilla Whitehill, following the success of its first season. Coughlan will reprise her role as Maggie, alongside Lydia West as her best friend, Eddie.

The series follows Maggie, a writer in her early 30s navigating life with bipolar disorder, and Eddie, her unwavering best friend. Season 2 will pick up a year after the duo last saw each other, with no contact in between—hinting at an emotional and potentially awkward reunion.

Speaking to Deadline, Coughlan expressed her excitement about the renewal, calling Big Mood one of the “greatest joys” of her life. “I’m deeply grateful to everyone who loves our mad, funny, sad show. It’s been a privilege to bring Maggie and Eddie’s story to life, and I’m beyond delighted that we get to tell the next chapter. Rats at the ready!” she teased.

Coughlan’s rising profile—especially after Bridgerton Season 3 spotlighted her character, Penelope Featherington—has only added to Big Mood‘s buzz. The show became Channel 4’s most-watched new comedy since Derry Girls, another hit featuring Coughlan.

Critics and audiences alike praised Big Mood for its honest yet humorous approach to bipolar disorder. Whitehill, the show’s creator, believes humor is a powerful way to explore serious topics. “There’s a misconception that using humor means taking a subject less seriously, but I think it allows us to engage with it in a more relatable way,” she explained.

The first season, which premiered on March 28, 2024, featured a stellar cast, including Ukweli Roach, Joanna Page, Eamon Farren, and Luke Fetherston.

For U.S. viewers, Big Mood Season 1 is available to stream on Tubi.
