Budget 2021 may include database for informal workers

Information of about 250 million informal workers and migrants may be announced in the Budget 2021-2022 to be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman on February 1.

This will help the Centre and states to implement welfare schemes for the workers and migrants. The scheme is likely to cost Rs 760 crore and will require workers and migrants to register under the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) to qualify for healthcare facilities.

At least six schemes already in place can be linked to this database and repository so that social security benefits of these schemes can be made easy. The Budget 2021-2022 is also expected to be influenced by COVID-19 in some announcements.
