Calcutta High Court stay order for demolishing Mandarmani hotel gets a temporary break

The Calcutta High Court granted Mandarmani hotel owners a temporary break. The District Magistrate ordered the hotel to be demolished, but Justice Amrita Sinha granted a stay. This order will be in effect until the 30th of December. The matter will be heard again on December 10.

The tourist destination Mandarmani has expanded steadily by taking up space along the shore. Tourist entertainment has allegedly been set up on top of the wall at a number of hotels. In response to the National Environment Court’s ruling, the district administration of East Midnipur has issued a notice requiring the demolition of hundreds of “illegal” properties by November 20.

Later on, it was discovered that not even the Chief Secretary, the highest ranking official in the state administration, was aware of this. Anger was voiced by Mamata Banerjee. Additionally, the chief secretary announced that he will shortly speak with the hotel owners.

According to the Chief Minister, “bulldozers are not the answer.” Bulldozers won’t operate. On Wednesday, the hotel owners brought this matter before the Calcutta High Court. “This hotel business is the source of our income,” they argued.

This revenue supports the household. This business is affiliated with thousands of people. Before opening this hotel, they obtained a variety of permissions from the authorities. Therefore, it is not appropriate to declare it illegal at this time. Justice Amrita Sinha stayed the order to destroy the hotel during the hearing of the case.

The case’s next hearing is scheduled for December 10. Prior to that, the High Court must receive the report from each of the case’s parties.
