Cameron Diaz is making a big return to acting with the action-comedy Back in Action, and she recently shared her excitement about it on The Graham Norton Show. After taking a decade-long break from Hollywood, Diaz explained how her co-star Jamie Foxx played a key role in her decision to return to the big screen.
She told the host, “I am back, all thanks to Jamie,” admitting that for the past ten years, she had turned down offers and not paid much attention to the industry. But when the script for Back in Action came her way, Diaz felt it might be the right time to jump back into acting.
Diaz went on to praise Jamie Foxx, saying that she wouldn’t have considered leaving her family for 10 hours a day unless it was to work with “the most talented man in the entertainment business.” She described herself as lucky to still have such opportunities come her way, despite her time away. During her break from acting, Diaz had focused on her family, but she knew that this chance was too good to pass up. “If I let this go away, if I don’t engage again, and if I don’t give it a chance, I am a fool,” she reflected.
Although Diaz is excited about her comeback, she was hesitant to say whether she would return to acting for another film. In an interview with Empire, she said that while she’s glad to have worked on the Netflix project, it’s “hard to say” if she’ll continue acting in the future. She emphasized that she values her right to make decisions about her career.
Back in Action tells the story of CIA spies Emily (played by Diaz) and Matt (Foxx), who are pulled back into the world of espionage after their secret identities are exposed. The film also features Glenn Close, Tom Brittney, and Andrew Scott among its ensemble cast. The movie premiered on Netflix on January 17, 2025.
