Cameron Diaz has officially made her acting comeback with Netflix’s latest action-comedy Back in Action, marking her return to the screen after a decade-long hiatus. In a recent interview on the SkipIntro podcast, the actress reflected on the drastic changes in the entertainment industry since she last worked.
During the conversation, Diaz acknowledged that Hollywood is vastly different today, crediting the MeToo movement for reshaping the industry. “The industry is so different. I definitely have to say that MeToo changed everything,” she stated.
She recalled how film sets used to have a tense environment, often dictated by “one guy who terrifies people whenever he approaches.” However, she emphasized that those days are behind her, and the current atmosphere on set is significantly more respectful and safe.
The Mask actress candidly admitted that she had experienced “layers of inappropriateness” on past movie sets but had no choice but to tolerate it. However, times have changed. Before filming Back in Action, Diaz was briefed by human resources on workplace conduct and provided access to an anonymous hotline for reporting any issues on set.
The actress expressed her appreciation for these safety measures, revealing that she “never felt safer on a film set” than she did while working on her latest project.
Diaz first rose to fame in 1994 with her breakout role in The Mask opposite Jim Carrey. She quickly became a household name, starring in iconic films such as There’s Something About Mary, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and the Charlie’s Angels reboot.
After a successful run in Hollywood, Diaz stepped away from acting in 2014 to focus on her personal life, including her marriage to musician Benji Madden and their family. However, when the opportunity to star in Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx came her way, she felt it was “time” to make a return.
While speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Diaz credited her Back in Action co-star Jamie Foxx for convincing her to return to Hollywood. “I am back, all thanks to Jamie,” she revealed.
The Netflix film follows two former CIA spies, Emily (played by Diaz) and Matt (Foxx), who are forced out of retirement when their past identities are exposed. The action-packed movie is already generating buzz, and fans are thrilled to see Diaz back in action—literally.
For those eager to watch Cameron Diaz’s highly anticipated return, Back in Action is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
