Carlos Tevez set to leave Boca juniors after this season

Carlos Tevez is set to leave his boyhood club after a disappointing second stint with the club. The ex-Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus player smashed a penalty against a crossbar in a shootout that resulted in a loss for Boca against racing Club and sent the Buenos Aires giants out of the Copa Liga Profesional.

Tevez said in a statement that his career in Argentina is over, Boca was the only club he would play for,  he never thought this moment would arrive, but he’s here to tell you that he won’t be continuing with the club. He said that it is not a goodbye to the shirt and he’ll see them soon, but not as a player anymore.

Tevez’s announcement has brought an end to a six-year spell at Boca following his return from Juventus and a disastrous but financially lucrative stint with Shanghai Shenhua. He will be counted as a legend for the club along with the likes of Diego Maradona and Juan Riquelme. He has scored 47 goals for the club in 139 appearances.

He might not be universally popular in his home nation, especially against their rivals, River plate fans, but it’s impossible not to respect him for his brilliance on the field and the unswerving loyalty that he has shown to Boca over the years.
