An incident that occurred on Wednesday around 11 pm where a residential building collapsed on another causing the death of eleven people including 8 children was reported by ANI. Residents from three nearby building were evacuated as the structures were not in good condition as said by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
According to Dilip Sawant, Additional CP, said that a proper investigation shall be carried out and further action will be taken by the Police. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister expressed his condolences in one of his tweets along with Devendra Fadnavis, former Maharashtra Chief Minister demanded immediate assistance to the families and an in-depth inquiry along with an action taken against all responsible.

A case will be filed against the owner of the residential building which collapsed in Malad, as said by Vishwas Nagre Patil, Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Police to ANI. he said that the Mumbai Police will register a case against the owner and the contractor of the structure collapsed in Malad under section 304 (2) of Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). According to Nagre Patil, certain structural changes were made to the building after cyclone Tauktae.
Eighteen people were rescued from the spot among which eleven died and were transported to BDBA hospital in Kandivali with the help of locals who joined the rescue team. A possibility of more people being trapped under the debris of the building is said by Vishal Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) zone 11, Mumbai to ANI. The teams to rescue those trapped have arrived at the spot.
