In the first Cat Person trailer, Emilia Jones and Nicholas Braun do not look to be a perfect match.
Director Susanna Fogel’s film, set for release on October 6 from Rialto Pictures, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and is based on author Kristen Roupenian’s viral New Yorker short story of the same name. Cat Person explores modern dating through the eyes of college student Margot (Jones), who begins an affair with an older man named Robert (Braun) but quickly becomes suspicious about him.
After Margot shares her regrets over her time with Robert, who had earlier described himself as a cat person, her friend Taylor (Geraldine Viswanathan) inquires whether his pet felines were cute.
“I never saw them,” Margot replies ominously as she begins to doubt how honest he’s been. Later in the trailer, Margot concludes nonchalantly, “One of us has to die.”
The cast also includes Hope Davis, Fred Melamed, Isabella Rossellini, Christopher Shyer and Liza Koshy.
Fogel (The Spy Who Dumped Me) directs from a script by Michelle Ashford based on Roupenian’s controversial 2017 story. Executive producers include Fogel, Ashford, Elizabeth Banks, Shana Eddy-Grouf, Gino Falsetto, Max Handelman, Daniel Hank, Rachel Henochsberg and Anna Marsh.
