Centre issues notices to IndiGo, Mumbai airport after passengers seen eating on tarmac

The Mumbai airport and IndiGo got show-cause notices from the ministry of civil aviation on Tuesday after a video showing passengers eating and sitting on the tarmac went viral on the internet. This follows after the union minister of civil aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia, met with all ministry officials last night

As per the notice, IndiGo and the Mumbai airport were not proactive in anticipating the circumstance and preparing proper passenger facilitation arrangements, as reported by ANI. According to reports, the plane was given a remote bay C-33 instead of a Contact Stand, an aircraft parking stand designed for walking passengers to and fro the aircraft and an allocated boarding gate. It added, “This further added to passenger woes and deprived them the opportunity to avail basic facilities like restrooms and refreshments at the terminal.”

The aviation ministry asked for a reply from IndiGo and the Mumbai airport before the end of the day regarding the accident. The ministry stated, “If replies are not received in the given time then enforcement action including financial penalty will be initiated.”

A Goa-Delhi flight’s passengers were seen eating on the Mumbai airport’s tarmac in a viral video that was posted on Monday night.

Due to heavy fog, IndiGo flight 6E2195, which was scheduled to arrive in Delhi on Sunday, was forced to land at the Mumbai airport instead of Delhi. The flight had taken off from Goa.
