Centre to lift ban on Remdesivir export

On Monday the centre stated that drug is shifted from ‘prohibited’ to ‘restricted’ category

On Monday, June 14, the Government of India revised the export policy for injection Remdesivir and Remdesivir Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and authorized ‘restricted’ export of the drug used in COVID-19 treatment with prompt effect.

The report which was issued on June 14 by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry it mentioned that, “The Central Government hereby amends the notification dated 11.04.2021 related to the export of injection Remdesivir and Remdesivir API.”

It mentioned that, the export of Remdesivir injections and APIs against the Advance Authorization shall no longer require a separate export authorisation or permission as and under the amended policy, the drug has been shifted from ‘prohibited’ to ‘restricted’ category.

Centre’s report also said, “The export of injection Remdesivir and Remdesivir API has been put under restricted category with immediate effect.”

Remarkable in arise of the second wave of  pandemic, when COVID-19 cases have surged sharply, the Centre, on April 11, said because of the surge it has to stop the export of Remdesivir injection and API, at that time there was seen a high rise in demand for Remdesivir injections during this period in the country.

Government of India mentioned that, “Export of injection Remdesivir and Remdesivir Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients will be forbidden until the COVID-19 situation which has grown at high surge in the country improves.”
