Chandro Tomar popularly knowns as Shooter Dadi passed away at the age of 89 due to COVID-19

Chandro Tomar, well known as Shooter Dadi, had been in a hospital in Meerut due to COVID-19 related health issues. The 89-year-old is believed to be the oldest professional sharpshooter in the world.

Tomar was born on January 1, 1932, at Shamli, Uttarpradesh. She Started her sharpshooting career at the age of 65 and was criticised highly at the start. Tomar has acknowledged around 25 states and even larger championship across the country. She won the gold medal at the veteran shooting championship conducted in Chennai.

In 2021, Tomar told The New York Times that her strength and agility was developed by doing all the household works like grinding the wheat, cutting the grass and milking the cow.

Chandro Tomar and her sister Prakashi Tomar has been dedicated to a movie on their life story. Story portraits on their struggle and fight while becoming an icon for many. Chandro Tomar was played by Bhoomi Pednekar while Prakashi Tomar by Taapsee Pannu.

Tomar’s struggle and dedication towards sports have encouraged locals all around her including her granddaughters as well. Her demise during such hard situations is a great loss to the nation.
