The Champions League winners want Belgium attacker Romelu Lukaku to return to Stamford Bridge, with the 28-year-old set to leave Serie A champions Inter Milan. The Belgian international remains one of Roman Abramovich’s favorite strikers, and the Blues have made him their top transfer priority this summer.
Lukaku departed the west London club in 2014 to join Everton before joining Manchester United, where he had a difficult time. However, the 28-year-old striker has rediscovered his magic touch in Italy, finishing second to Cristiano Ronaldo in the Serie A scoring lists.
According to sources, the Blues are attempting to reduce Inter’s £100 million asking price for a reunion with the Belgian. Haaland of Borussia Dortmund is also being considered. The Norwegian is under contract with the Bundesliga club until 2024, although he has a reputed €75 million (£66 million) release clause that kicks in in the summer of 2022.
Despite being extensively linked with a move away from Signal Iduna Park, the 20-year-old forward recently stated that he will be respectful to Dortmund this summer. Chelsea’s need for a true striker was clear this season, as Jorginho finished as the club’s best scorer in the Premier League, with seven goals – all from penalties.
