The initial buzz surrounding Erling Haaland has faded down in recent weeks, owing to Borussia Dortmund qualifying for next year’s Champions League, which was viewed as a basic requirement for keeping the 20-year-old goal-machine. The number of teams that could afford Haaland’s rumoured asking price of more than £150 million was already few, and it has only gotten fewer in the interim.
The Norwegian attacker is one of the most exciting young players in the world, having already scored 57 goals in 59 games for Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are still in the running, or back in the race, despite missing out on Romelu Lukaku, who has stated his intention to stay at Inter Milan. Chelsea is still interested in Haaland, albeit this has not yet resulted in a formal bid. For the time being, efforts are concentrated on determining whether this transfer is even feasible in the first place.
The transfer would most certainly cost more than £150 million, and it appears Haaland hasn’t ruled out a summer switch if Chelsea raises the necessary finances.
What Erling Haaland has said on his future:
“I have not taken a position on that (his future),” he said last week. “After this international break I will go on vacation, and then I will report for pre-season.”
What Thomas Tuchel has said on Erling Haaland:
“I will not answer out of respect for the player and Borussia Dortmund. There is big news around him and his agent. It seems like they are creating a race for the player and I will fully accept this is a player for Borussia Dortmund, a promising player of course.”
