For the next 2023–24 season, Chelsea has loaned out young striker David Datro Fofana to Union Berlin. The Blues want to return to the top of the league the next season and the 20-year-old Ivorian striker has been added to the list of several other players who have been released by the club as part of new manager Mauricio Pochettion’sgrand rebuild of the team.
Union Berlin, on the other hand, has had a fantastic resurgence in the Bundesliga, battling their way into a Champions League qualifying slot this season, finishing fourth overall in the league.
The German team fought its way into a Champions League qualifying slot this past season, placing fourth overall in the league and has since seen a remarkable resurgence in the Bundesliga.
Oliver Ruhnert, managing director of Union’s men’s professional football said, “David’s speed and his flexible offensive qualities are highly interesting for us. We want another goal-scoring player who will give our attacking game additional impetus.”
Fofana joined the Chelsea squad in January 2023, when then-manager Graham Potter bought the young striker from Molde for a price of 11 million pounds.
