The teaser of Dhurandhar 2 has reignited conversations around violent action films, a genre that continues to draw massive audiences but is largely dominated by male protagonists. The original film, directed by Aditya Dhar, emerged as the biggest box-office success of 2025, known for its intense and often brutal action sequences.
Reacting to the franchise’s success, actor Chitrangda Singh praised Dhurandhar for its impact while addressing the larger question of why such physically demanding roles are rarely written for women. According to Chitrangda, certain realities often influence casting and storytelling choices. She pointed out that, from a biological and social standpoint, it can be difficult to place women in roles that demand the kind of extreme physical violence seen in films like Dhurandhar, where realism plays a key role.
However, Chitrangda was quick to challenge the idea that women cannot lead violent action narratives. She cited examples from South Indian cinema, recalling a particularly brutal action film released in early 2025 that featured women in intense combat, proving that the genre can work when backed by strong storytelling.
The actor stressed that women in action can bring an element of surprise that elevates cinema. She noted that when a female character is pushed to the edge and written with conviction, the resulting violence can feel even more powerful and unexpected on screen.
Highlighting a mainstream example, Chitrangda praised Katrina Kaif’s performance in the Tiger franchise, calling the towel fight scene in Tiger 3 a standout moment. According to her, such performances demonstrate that audiences are ready to embrace women in action-heavy roles, provided the writing supports it.
