Recent mobbing incidents involving actors Nidhhi Agerwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu during public events have once again brought celebrity safety into focus. Responding to the growing concern, actor Chitrangda Singh shared her views on the issue, calling such situations frightening and stressing the need for better crowd management.
Chitrangda, who spent much of last year travelling across the country to promote multiple projects including Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, Housefull 5 and Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, said these incidents can quickly spiral out of control.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, she described watching visuals of Nidhhi Agerwal being mobbed as “scary” and questioned how such situations are allowed to happen. According to her, the responsibility lies with event organisers and agencies to ensure actors are protected at all times.
Recalling her own experiences, Chitrangda revealed that she has faced similar situations during festival appearances, including Dahi Handi events, where crowds became aggressive and even began hitting the car she was in. She admitted that the sudden physical proximity and lack of control left her deeply shaken.
However, the actor pointed out that mobbing is not an issue faced only by women. She shared an incident from a college event in Delhi while promoting I, Me Aur Main with John Abraham. As the crowd surged, John tried to shield her while escorting her to the car. Later, she was shocked to see his back covered in scratch marks, a result of him being pushed by the crowd.
Chitrangda concluded that such incidents highlight a larger safety problem that affects all actors, regardless of gender, and needs urgent attention.
