Christian Eriksen’s surprise visit played a vital role for Denmark

Christian Eriksen went to meet his Denmark team and surprised them in the middle of the training session after he was discharged from the hospital with a successful operation.

Denmark midfielder, Christian Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed on the pitch during his UEFA Euro 2020 opener vs Finland last Saturday. He was given CPR and stretched to the hospital. The player had to be revived with a defibrillator. He got discharged from Copenhagen hospital yesterday after a successful operation.

Soon after being discharged, Eriksen went to see his teammates at their European Championships’ camp outside the capital. He surprised and hugged them all. Defender Joakim Maehle told that his visit came up as an absolute surprise.

“I didn’t know that he was coming, we stopped the training session as soon as we saw him arriving. He looked to be in good spirits, and have good energy for the team. We were allowed to give him a hug. It was great to see him, he walked around with his son. It was a great day in many ways. This is what we needed,” said Midfielder Christian Norgaard.

The 29-year-old Eriksen’s teammates were traumatised by the incident that happened with him. They formed a protective shell around him to shield him, while he was being treated on the pitch. The meeting played a vital role to calm the distressed teammates.
