Cillian Murphy talks about losing Batman role to Christian Bale

The great actor Cillian Murphy is at last receiving the adoration and praise he so richly deserves for his outstanding performance in the just released movie Oppenheimer.

The master craftsman Christopher Nolan-directed autobiographical thriller is currently getting rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. In the movie, Cillian Murphy portrayed Robert J. Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who is regarded as the inventor of the atomic bomb. This was Nolan’s sixth on-screen project with Murphy.

As you may be aware, Cillian Murphy gained notoriety primarily through his outstanding work in supporting, negative, and sporadic lead roles. In the first film of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, Batman Begins, the gifted actor portrayed the main antagonist Scare Crow, also known as Dr. Jonathan Crane. Audiences were won over by Murphy’s subtle performance as the depraved psychopharmacologist.

In the following two films in the franchise, he later played the part again. But few are aware that Cillian Murphy first tried out for the role of Batman in the superhero trilogy. In a recent interview with GQ Magazine UK, Cillian Murphy discussed how Oscar-winning actor Christian Bale ultimately won the role of Batman, and he said it was for the best. “I think it was for the best because we got Christian Bale’s performance, which is a stunning interpretation of that role.”

He further added, “I never considered myself the right physical specimen for the role of Batman. To me, it was always going to be Christian Bale.”
