Coal India Limited looks forward to one billion ton production in 2023-24

Coal India Limited that accounts over 80 per cent of the domestic coal output is looking forward to one billion ton production in the year 2023-24. The state owned company at present is working on 114 coal projects. Altogether, these project costs around Rs 20 crore and above and are at different stages of implementation as per reports.

The Coal Ministry in its annual report of 2020-21 affirmed that the implementation and completion of the projects are considered on the grounds critical extraneous factors like possession of lands, green clearances and evacuation infrastructures. It informed that in the year 2020, 34 projects were sanctioned. It further clarified that nine mining projects were completed by the Coal India Limited.

As per reports, various measures to assure timely completion of the projects were taken by the company. It further informed that CIL was in discussion with the state governments to convince the latter for expediting land authentication in Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The report added, “Further, land owners are being constantly persuaded to accept compensation and handover land acquired by the company.” It further disclosed that there is a constant coordination and liaising with the state governments for expediting the process of allowance of forest clearance.

The report further confirmed that the state governments are being constantly urged by the coal companies across the countries to establish required action for curbing the frequent law and order issue.

The implementation of the ongoing project are regularly re-examined at the level of CIL and its subsidiary. The coal ministry reviews projects that costs more than Rs 500 crore and posses capacity of almost more than three million per annum in every quarter.
