In Joss Whedon’s superhero team-up Avengers from 2012, actor Cobie Smulders made her MCU debut as Maria Hill, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. under the command of Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson).
The first episode of Marvel’s new series Secret Invasion saw her death. “It felt strange and still does. The loss of Maria Hill felt very human, very devastating, and very real. A dreadful day it was. I can’t recall ever passing away live on camera. I witnessed a true death scene! Naturally, I would have liked to contribute more, but I am confident in Marvel’s ability to tell the finest possible tale.”

The agony of such situation is when Hill believes that Fury shot her and Fury sees himself. “I like to assume that she realised it wasn’t him by the time she departed. It’s frightening and quite confused at first. But I’d like to think she made it,” Cobie stated in a Vanity Fair interview. A Skrull assumes the identity of Maria’s friend Nick Fury towards the end of the first episode of Secret Invasion, which debuted on June 21, and shoots Maria. She passes away, though, before the real Nick Fury can reach her.
“Now that there is a multiverse, anything is conceivable. However, I think this is it. In the same interview, Cobie denied rumours that she appears in The Marvels, the upcoming movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which also stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, Teynoah Paris as Monica Rambeau, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. On November 10, The Marvels will open in theatres.
