Colman Domingo recently reflected on how he played different characters in Nash Bridges

Colman Domingo has proven himself to be one of the most versatile actors, effortlessly taking on different roles even in similar settings. Recently, the Sing Sing actor reflected on his time working on a well-known TV series—playing multiple characters without the audience realizing it.

Speaking about his experience on the CBS police procedural Nash Bridges, Domingo shared, “The funny thing is, besides the Law & Orders, I was also on Nash Bridges, that great show, like five different times. Why?”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Fear the Walking Dead star explained that he appeared in nearly every season of Nash Bridges, each time portraying a completely different person. Thanks to his skill in transforming his appearance, voice, and mannerisms, viewers never recognized him as the same actor.

Domingo credited his theater background for shaping this ability. He revealed that each role challenged him to reinvent himself—sometimes by deepening his voice, other times by using a higher pitch. He would gain or lose weight depending on the character, and even experimented with different hairstyles. From playing a bartender at a gay bar to a jazz musician, he embraced every role, making sure casting directors always saw him as someone new.

Interestingly, the show’s casting team kept bringing him back for different roles, treating each as if he had never been on the show before. Domingo noted that while most actors only get cast once in a series, his ability to transform made him an exception.
