Colombia removed as co-host from Copa America 2021 due to protests in the country

The 2021 Copa America will no longer have games in Columbia after South American Football federation decided on Thursday to move games away from the country due to the civil unrest there. There were some cases of Tear gases fired outside Football stadiums that lead to discomfort among the participant countries and officials. The 2021 tournament was set to be hosted by Argentina and Colombia jointly.

It was in 105 years that two countries would host this tournament but after weeks of protests in Colombia, the South American Football Federation was forced to remove them as a co-host. Colombia also requested to shift the tournament to the end of the year but the proposal was rejected by the federation.

The tournament will be featuring all the Nations from South America and will kick off on June 13 in Buenos Aires. The final of this competition was set to be played in the Colombian city of Barranquilla on July 11.

15 people have died so far in the protest which was against the now canceled tax plan but it leads to a shortage of food and gasoline. Now the protesters are asking for ending police violence and more opportunities for young people.
