Coolie story leaked: Rajinikanth plays an ageing smuggler on a vendetta — here’s how vintage watches fit in

Coolie, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is without a doubt one of the year’s most anticipated films. The movie’s crew has been cautious with their promotional materials, keeping everything under wraps and giving away very little about the plot. In his promotional interviews, Lokesh has also been silent. Here is the movie’s plot, assuming the synopses on Letterboxd and Fandango are to be trusted.

Letterboxd claims that Coolie chronicles the ascent of a crime group headed by Deva, played by Rajinikanth. He comes up with a scheme to reassemble his former group and seize power. According to the platform’s synopsis, “An elderly gold smuggler revitalises his former mafia crew by using stolen technology concealed in antique golden watches.”

However, his scheme to retake his kingdom devolves into something more complex—a brand-new universe created out of broken time, crime, and greed. The movie’s promotional materials have made extensive use of watches and gold.

By demonstrating that Deva is motivated by the need to make amends for some past wrongs, Fandango appeared to give the narrative additional depth. “Delves into a man’s relentless quest for vengeance since youth, driven by righting past wrongs, shaping his very existence,” says the summary on the US ticketing platform.

The intricacies of his turbulent vendetta trip are experienced by viewers. Fans were excited to learn the film’s plot because Lokesh and the film’s crew had not given away anything.

The Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), which includes the films Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo, will not include Coolie. Despite being a stand-alone movie, it nonetheless has a large ensemble cast that includes actors Shoubin Shahir, Satyaraj, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna, and Aamir Khan. The soundtrack for the movie was written by Anirudh Ravichander.

Following the success of the Vijay-starring film Leo, Lokesh’s next film is Coolie, his first with Rajinikanth. Rajinikanth will shortly appear in Jailer 2, having most recently starred with Amitabh Bachchan in Vettaiyan.
