Copa America: Guido Rodriguez’s first international goal leads Argentina 1-0 over Uruguay

Guido Rodriguez’s first International goal in his 11 appearances, from Messi’s perfect pass, gave a 1-0 lead to Argentina to overcome Uruguay in their second Copa America group stage matchday 2.

Despite Lionel Messi’s staggering free-kick, Argentina had drawn their Copa America opener against Chile. Messi’s curling shot from the edge of the area had given an early lead to his country in the first half which wasn’t enough to win them that game as Eduardo Vargas scored after Arturo Vidal’s penalty was saved, gave Chile their equaliser and the match ended 1-1.

Coming from a draw previously, Lionel Messi’s inch-perfect cross beating Uruguayan goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, to the Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez, who without attempting any mistake turned the pass into a goal with a beautiful header for their side. After two games, their first victory of Copa America 2021 vs Uruguay took them on top of the table of Group B. Barcelona striker, Messi who played 90 minutes, was named Man of the Match for his stunning performance as he caused problems for the opponents with his dribbling skills even after being surrounded by their defenders frequently. Messi with one goal, one assist and two Man of the Match awards for his two matches of the tournament this year.

The outcome of the game extended Argentina’s unbeaten run to 15 games. Last time they had lost in the semifinal of Copa America 2019 with 2-0 against Brazil. The teams will be back in action on Monday, Argentina will face Paraguay while Uruguay to take on Chile who beat Bolivia 1-0 today.
