Couple’s spat results in death of a software engineer in Gurugram

With the death of a software engineer along with the arrest of his wife on charges of murder, a domestic spat between the couple apparently over long working hours came to an end.

Allegedly an argument between the couple Gunjan and Sachin Kumar on Friday was escalated into a fight, following which, Sachin was sustained with a deep knife wound in his chest.

Fights would often occur between the couple because Sachin would be too busy with work and hardly used to give time to the family as claimed by his wife Gunjan, according to the police. The couple has an 8-year-old son who is believed to have been in another room while their 11-year daughter is a witness to the incident.

During the argument, Gunjan picked up a kitchen knife threatening to kill herself while the knife pierced into Sachin’s chest in an attempt to snatch it from her, as claimed by Gunjan, the police said.

The family lives on the ground floor of a two-storeyed house while the victim’s brother, Neeraj, owns the first floor. Gunjan is employed with an export house while Sachin used to work with an IT firm and the couple were married for around 12 years. After hearing the commotion on Friday morning, Neeraj rushed downstairs and witnessed his brother lying on the ground with blood spurting out from the wound, after which Sachin was rushed to a nearby hospital and there he was referred to Medanta while he scummed to his injury during treatment there.

Accusing his sister in law of killing his brother, Neeraj has lodged a police complaint which was registered under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the New Colony police station. He said that he witnessed his brother lying on the ground while his niece wouldn’t stop crying.
