CoWIN glitch hits Round 2 of vaccination drive

Round 2 of the COVID-19 vaccination drive of healthcare workers on Tuesday was wrecked by a technical glitch in the CoWIN app. Due to the glitch, the application did not reflect the ‘partially vaccinated’ beneficiaries.

Out of the 1,926 people eligible for the second dose, only 4% were vaccinated in Mumbai. The app did not recognize people eligible for the second dose, also for some people the app showed they hadn’t completed 28 days of interval from the first dose. The app also crashed in certain vaccination centres.

“CoWIN was mainly responsible for the failure to vaccinate individuals with the second dose,” said Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani. Of all the 18,582 who got the first dose, only 4,679 got the second dose in. Maharashtra.
