The Britney Spears-starring 2002 coming-of-age film “Crossroads” will make a comeback to theatres a few weeks after Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert film premieres. It will only be on stage for two nights, on October 23 and 25, as part of a fan event sponsored by RCA Records, Sony Music Entertainment, and Trafalgar Releasing. A connection exists between the theatrical re-release and Spears’ upcoming memoir, “The Woman in Me,” which is released on October 24.

The movie “Crossroads” will be shown in 875 theatres in 24 countries and have a bonus sing-along featuring two Spears songs that were in the movie but were never shown on a large screen. The “Crossroads” goods line will also debut in conjunction with the re-release, and it will include replicas of the cast’s wardrobe items as well as tops, sweatshirts and jackets that are inspired by the movie.
According to Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, “We are excited to […] create an opportunity for fans to enjoy this highly anticipated film in cinemas, and to rally in support of Britney telling her story in her upcoming memoir release.”
In addition to writing “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal,” Shonda Rhimes also penned “Crossroads,” which Tamra Davis directed. The plot is on three childhood friends, Lucy (Spears), Kit (Saldana), and Mimi (Manning), who reunite on a cross-country trip eight years after parting ways. Despite receiving negative reviews, “Crossroads” had its initial release in 2002 and amassed a global revenue of $61 million.
With its wonderful ensemble cast, “Crossroads” is a time capsule of nostalgia that Davis recently rewatched and was completely charmed by. “Watching Britney is utterly breathtaking, and Shonda is demonstrating her early prowess in developing complex female characters. The connection the actresses bring to their roles is visible in every frame, and we had the most fun in the world while producing this film. I’m very happy that ‘Crossroads’ will be released so that people can see Britney in her best light once more.
