Cyclone Montha approaches Andhra coast: Expected landfall time and location revealed

Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha is moving closer to the coast of Andhra Pradesh and is predicted to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to several districts when it makes landfall with winds of 90 to 110 kmph. To evaluate preparations before the landfall, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met with the state’s special officers, collectors, and superintendents of police, according to IAS Ajay Jain, Special Incharge Officer for Cyclones.

There was a video conference with the chief minister. Jain told ANI, “He just had a teleconference with all the special officers, collectors, and SPs.” He added that for each of the nine districts that are on alert, a zonal officer has been assigned. While some districts may be impacted, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi stated that the storm would not directly reach the state.

Majhi assured that there was little chance of major storm damage and stated that he has summoned an emergency meeting for tomorrow, according to ANI. According to a party statement, BJP National President J P Nadda has instructed party units in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry, and the Andaman & Nicobar to support rescue and relief efforts.

The state government has put the administration on high alert in anticipation of the Severe Cyclonic Storm making landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast close to Kakinada. The India Meteorological Department announced on Monday that the cyclone would move across the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam on the evening and night of October 28.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Naidu examined the situation from the Secretariat’s Real Time Governance Centre (RTGS). According to a release, Naidu had previously spoken with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who assured him that the Centre will offer its full support throughout the storm.

According to ANI, Naidu has instructed officials to monitor the cyclone’s progress hourly and implement zero-risk precautions, particularly in low-lying and coastal locations. The readiness efforts in the potentially rainy regions of Tiruvallur and North Chennai in Tamil Nadu were examined by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.

On Monday, Odisha Chief Minister Majhi will convene an emergency review meeting. The state has designated eight districts as “red zones” and dispatched 123 fire service units. For rescue and relief efforts, the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force teams have been outfitted with motor rafts, generators, power saws, and rescue boats.

Pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals living in various Andhra Pradesh coastal areas are among the vulnerable groups being relocated to safer areas. According to ANI, 364 schools in the state are prepared to serve as shelters. Additionally, residents of eight districts in the southern region of the state have been evacuated by the Odisha government.

Officials, local leaders, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and other volunteers are persuading residents of risky areas to relocate to safer areas, according to Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari.
