Cynthia Erivo, who recently dazzled audiences with her role in the musical fantasy Wicked, has expressed interest in playing a mutant on screen, specifically the powerful and regal Storm. During an interview at the National Board of Review, the talented actress (who is also known for her incredible singing voice) shared her enthusiasm for the role of Ororo Munroe, also known as Storm, and fans are excited about the possibility of her portraying this iconic character.
Storm, a beloved mutant from the X-Men universe, was created by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum, making her first appearance in Giant Size X-Men in May 1975. She is the daughter of tribal princes from Kenya and an African photojournalist father, but she was raised in Harlem, New York City, and Cairo, Egypt. Storm is a descendant of African witch-priestesses, which gives her the ability to control the weather and manipulate the atmosphere, making her one of the most powerful mutants in the X-Men universe.
There were widespread rumors that Storm would make her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with speculation that she might become the queen of Wakanda and marry the late Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman. However, those rumors have not materialized—yet.
Storm has already been portrayed by the acclaimed Halle Berry in the X-Men movie franchise, and a younger version of the character was introduced in X-Men: Apocalypse, played by Alexandra Shipp. Given Erivo’s impressive range and presence, many believe she could be the perfect fit to bring this powerful character to life in future X-Men or Marvel projects.
