Dana Carvey’s son Dex’s official cause of death revealed

A few months after comedian Dana Carvey’s son Dex died at the age of 32, the family got official details from authorities on the reason for his death. Medical examiners ruled that Dex’s death was accidental, caused by a mix of medications. The L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office released reports on Tuesday. Like his father, Dex was a comedian, in fact, he opened for his father’s Netflix special, Straight White Male, in 2016.

As per medical reports acquired by TMZ, the comedian’s oldest son died as a result of toxic levels of fentanyl, ketamine and cocaine found in his body. The agency defines his death as accidental. Dana and his spouse, Paula Zwagerman, issued a heartbreaking joint statement in November 2023 to announce their son’s death.

The couple penned on Instagram, “Last night we suffered a tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old. They added, ““Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, film making, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately.”

Dana shared on Instagram a few days after Dex’s demise that his son’s death was caused by an accidental overdose. He penned, “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.”
