Deep Sidhu’s police custody gets extended by 7 days

A court in Delhi extended the police custody of Deep Sidhu, a Punjabi actor turned singer, by 7 days for his role in the Republic Day protests.

The police claim he was the ‘main instigator’ of the protests at Red Fort on Republic Day. They believe that there is a larger conspiracy behind the violence. He was arrested on February 9 at the Karnal bypass. The 7-day extension has been sought so that the police can identify his supporters who took part in the protests. They also want to find out about the different phones he uses. He was arrested because he posted videos of the protests on social media.

On Republic Day, many protestors from Punjab, Haryana and other places reached Red Fort in Delhi to protest the farm bills that were passed in September last year.
