Delhi High Court dismisses the plea filed by Juhi Chawla against setting 5G network, imposes a fine of Rs 20 Lacs

Delhi HC dismissed Juhi Chawla’s lawsuit against setting up of 5G network in the country and imposes a heavy fine of Rs 20 lacs calling the plea a “publicity stunt”.

An actor-environmentalist Juhi Chalwa filed a lawsuit in the Delhi HC against setting up 5G wireless networks in the country. The court dismissed the case characterising it as an act done to “gain publicity” and imposed a hefty fine of Rs 20 lacs to the actress.

The actress stood against the development of 5G technology citing the reason that radiations from the towers are life-threatening for the ecosystem of the country. In the court hearing, however, the case was claimed to be “flawed and unreasonable”.

Justice J R Midha had passed the order assuring that 5G technology is safe for humans, animals, plants and the concerned biodiversity of the country. Meanwhile, talking to IANS Juhi Chawla said, “We wish to clarify here and once again very clearly state, we are NOT against 5G technology. However, we seek from the Government and the governing authorities, to certify to us and, therefore, to the public at large, that 5G technology is safe to humankind, man, woman, adult, child, infant, animals, and every type of living organism, to flora, and fauna.” Just as this news spread out on social media, the netizens posted rib-tickling memes.

Juhi Chawla took to her Twitter asked people to join her in the virtual hearing posting, “Hum…tum aur 5G! If you do think this concerns you in anyway, feel free to join our first virtual hearing conducted at Delhi High Court, to be held on 2nd June, 10.45 AM onwards Link in my bio.” 

In the hearing, an unidentified person started singing songs from the actress’s movie causing serious inconvenience in the proceedings. The Judge has asked the police and IT department to look into it and take necessary actions against the person.
