Delhi: Low-intensity earthquake hits Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area

Delhi earthquake: The tremors were felt at around 12.02 pm and according to the seismology centre and the depth of the quake was 7 km.

A low-intensity earthquake with a magnitude of 2.1 on the Richter scale  has hit Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area on Sunday afternoon, as confirmed by the National Center for Seismology. The tremors were experienced at around 12.02 pm and consistent with the seismology centre, the depth of the quake was 7 km.

The epicentre of the quake was at Punjabi Bagh – 28.67 degrees North latitude and 77.14 degrees East longitude – with a depth of seven km, it said.

Until now there are no reports of any injuries, loss of life or damage to property from local authorities or sources.

The seismic activity in Delhi has come several within several hours after a series of earthquakes recorded at  the northeastern states. Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, all witnessed tremors during a span of around 24 hours.

As per the  local authorities, no damage to property or loss of life was reported within the quake-hit regions.

Assam has also rocked by 4.2-magnitude quake, which is the fifth tremor to hit region in 24 hours

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck Assam within the early hours of Saturday, the fifth such tremor to hit the northeastern region during the past 24 hours.

According to the reports of National Center for Seismology  said the newest quake was recorded at 1.07 am, with its epicentre near Tezpur, the headquarter of Sonitpur district, at a depth of 30 kms.

The state was rocked by two more quakes, including a 4.1-magnitude one early Friday, which also had its epicentre in Sonitpur district.

Besides Assam, an earthquake of magnitude 3 with epicentre in Chandel district of Manipur was recorded on Friday, and another 2.6-magnitude tremor with epicentre in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.
