The Delhi Police has arrested a 22-year-old man from the Khajoori Khas area of the national capital, accusing him of issuing threats to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the police, the man gave the threat in a call to the police on June 3.
The 22-year-old has been identified as Salman. He reportedly made a call to the police last night and said, “I want to kill Modi.”
Following the threatening call, police officials from the Khajoori Khas police station in Northeast Delhi apprehended him from his home in the same area. Senior officials in the Delhi Police are now investigating the matter and questioning the young man. During the interrogation, Salman revealed that he made the threatening call to the police as he wanted to go to jail again.
According to the police, the accused man is a frequent offender. The police have lodged several cases against him earlier and he was currently out on bail.
The matter is being taken extremely seriously by other investigative and security agencies as well. Considering the fact that a threat has been issued to the Prime Minister of the country, it is expected that intelligence officials in the government of India will also question the 22-year-old accused.
It may be recalled that in January 2020, a man had been arrested by the police which accused him of giving death threats to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The police had said that he had posted online messages opposing the Citizenship(Amendment) Act(CAA) and the National Register of Citizens(NRC).
