An official announced on Wednesday that the Delhi Police had arrested four illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who were involved in several fraud cases, breaking up a cheating gang known as the “Dollar Gang.”
“Mistri” made agreements, “Pagal” exchanged counterfeit money for real money, “Thekedar” financed activities, “Pahredaar” maintained the gang’s protection, and “Tez Baaz” attracted victims. The gang functioned as organised teams, with each member assigned a distinct task. An unidentified man approached the victim at Dhaula Kuan and offered to exchange a large number of US dollar notes at a discounted rate, according to the officer.
“Tempted by the offer, the complainant agreed to the deal and met the accused at Samrat Cinema in Shakurpur on February 16 Instead of genuine currency, the victim was handed a bag filled with newspapers, handkerchiefs and soap bars disguised as money,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Bhisham Singh.
A special squad was established to look into the incident after the complaint was filed and a formal complaint was filed at the Subhash Place Police Station. Investigators located the accused in Dhundhahera village in Gurugram, Haryana, following technical surveillance and CCTV footage analysis. According to the DCP, four important gang members were apprehended as a result of a well-planned operation.
They were identified as Salim Khan from West Bengal, Ali Hasan, who had previously been involved in a cheating case, Kalam, a West Bengal resident, and Dholu Sheikh, who had also previously been involved in a dishonest case. The four defendants were discovered to be undocumented migrants from Bangladesh who used fictitious Aadhaar cards to prove their identities.
DCP Singh stated, “The Delhi Police have notified the FRRO for deportation procedures and the UIDAI for Aadhaar revocation.” According to the police, they found 11 cell phones, two rolls of deceptive newspapers, eight US dollars, two Bangladeshi Taka notes, and ₹40,300 in cash.
According to police, at least four incidents of cheating have been resolved as a result of the operation. To find additional participants and guarantee the expulsion of the unauthorised migrants, more research is being conducted.
