The Indian film industry continues to grieve the loss of veteran actor Dharmendra, who passed away at the age of 89 on November 24. Among those who shared their condolences was Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who expressed deep sorrow while also recalling the actor’s connection with the state.
In a heartfelt post on X, Shivakumar said Dharmendra’s warmth, charm and powerful performances shaped an era of Indian cinema. He highlighted how the actor touched millions through films that became timeless favourites. “From the magic of Sholay, filmed in our own Ramanagara, to countless memorable roles, his legacy will forever live on,” he wrote, offering prayers for the Deol family and admirers.
Speaking to PTI, the Deputy CM further shared Karnataka’s special pride in Dharmendra’s work. He noted that Sholay, one of the most iconic films in Indian cinema, was shot in Ramanagaram, his very own district. “He played a major role in the movie, which was recognised nationally and internationally,” he said. “On behalf of the Government of Karnataka and myself, we pray to God. There are many followers; we still remember him.”
Dharmendra, born Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol, began his acting journey in 1960 at the age of 24 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. Over a career spanning decades, he transitioned effortlessly between romance, action and mature roles. Though the term “superstar” was rarely used for him formally, his box-office success and fan following surpassed many who carried the title.
