Despite entering fourth round against Koepfer, Roger Federer considers withdrawal from French Open

Roger Federer smashes Dominik Koepfer 7-6(5), 6-7(3), 7-6(4) and reaches  French Open’s round 4 of Roland Garros tournament that took place at the Court Philippe Chatrier without fans due to Pandemic curfew. Swiss player played his longest match of 3 hours and 35 minutes in 18 months after going through double knee surgery and enters his last 16 of a Slam for 68th time creating a record of 18 AUS Open, 15 Roland Garros, 17 Wimbledon, 18 US Open.

World no.1 British professional tennis star praises Federer for the outcome of the match even after going through 2 knee surgeries via Twitter.

“I am not bothered by the outcome of this match at all. Just seeing Federer at 39 off the back of 2 knee surgeries playing to an empty stadium at 12:30 am getting fired up is an inspiration to me. Do what you love.”

Meanwhile, the defending champ Rafael Nadal has also reached his fourth round for a record of 16th time at the Grand Slam.

Despite winning for the fourth round, Federer, the 20 times Grand Slam winner of a record which he shares with Rafael Nadal,  is considering withdrawing from French Open. This might be the 2009 champion’s last Roland Garros. “I don’t know if I am going to play”. Federer doesn’t want to risk his knees by putting a lot of pressure after going through two knew surgeries last year and only played three events since the 2020 Australian Open. He considers this might be a good time to have rest. Veteran player said that his priority for this year is to win ninth Wimbledon title at All England Club, which starts on June 28. He will be facing Matteo Berrettini of Italy on Monday.
