Dhanashree Verma opens up on divorce from Yuzvendra Chahal; says she’s not looking for love

Choreographer and influencer Dhanashree Verma has spoken about her divorce from cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, saying she chose respect over public mudslinging and is no longer interested in seeking love.

Dhanashree Verma has broken her silence on life after her much-talked-about divorce from Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal. Appearing on the reality show Rise and Fall, hosted by Ashneer Grover, the choreographer opened up about moving on and why she decided to maintain dignity despite being subjected to social media trolling.

“Sabke haath mein apni izzat hoti hai (Every person is responsible for their own respect), and when you’re in a marriage, you’re responsible for the other person too. Their respect is also your responsibility,” Dhanashree said. She added that while she had plenty to share, she chose silence out of respect. “I could have been disrespectful too, you think I don’t have things to say, as a woman? But he was my husband, I respected him even when I was married, and I have to respect the fact that I was married to him.”

Talking about her current mindset, Dhanashree admitted she is not seeking love again. Instead, she emphasised the importance of focusing on one’s work rather than tarnishing someone else’s image. “If you want to portray yourself in a good light, let your work speak; why put somebody else down to clean your image? We live in a country where support will usually favour one side, but that’s fine, please, everyone be happy,” she remarked.

Dhanashree and Chahal tied the knot in Gurugram in December 2020 after meeting during the Covid-19 pandemic, when he approached her for dance lessons. They filed a joint petition for divorce by mutual consent in February 2024 and were granted separation in March.
