In its fourth weekend overseas, Dhurandar grossed approximately USD 2.35 million, bringing its total worldwide box office gross to USD 24.40 million (Rs. 220 crore). With a global box office gross of Rs. 1009 crore approx. to date, the Ranveer Singh starrer has surpassed the Rs. 1000 crore mark, in addition to an estimated Rs. 789 crore in India.
Dhurandhar is the fourth Bollywood and eighth Indian film to reach the coveted Rs. 1000 crore mark. The film’s overseas box office performance has been extraordinary since its first week. The picture has had great holds week after week and is now taking full advantage of the Christmas season.
The picture is approaching USD 25 million and is expected to end in the high $20s, or around USD 30 million. That’s despite not releasing in the Middle Eastern countries, which might have added another USD 10 million to its total, potentially reaching USD 40 million. Dhurandhar is expected to be the highest-grossing Bollywood film in three major international markets: the United States, Canada, and Australia. The latter two will also set records for Indian cinema.
Dhurandhar made USD 10 million in the United States this weekend, becoming only the third Bollywood film to accomplish so after Dangal and Pathaan. In Canada and Australia, it surpassed Pathaan to become India’s second-highest grossing picture, trailing only Animal.
The only one missing will be the United Kingdom, but even then, it will be in the top two, which is a great accomplishment. This is a market where the Pakistani diaspora makes up a sizable chunk of the audience for Indian films, and given the film’s patriotic themes, it would normally receive minimal support from that demographic. However, the fact that it is set in Pakistan and based on the Pakistani underworld has piqued fans’ interest, and it appears to be drawing them in.
