The Dutchman isn’t renowned for displaying his emotions on his sleeve, but the occasion got to him in his final game as Feyenoord’s manager defeated Utrecht before his retirement.

Dick Advocaat, obviously moved, signed out with a victory in his final football match, leading Feyenoord into Europe. The Dutchman had a long and successful career, most notably with Rangers from 1998 until 2001.

Advocaat brought players like Michael Mols and Ronald de Boer to Ibrox, winning the domestic treble in his first season and the SPL and Scottish Cup double the following year. He managed the Rangers for about 200 games in all and is still well-liked by supporters.

Advocaat took command of his farewell game as a manager on Sunday, when Feyenoord defeated Utrecht 2-0. That win was enough to get the Eredivisie club into the Europa League for the next season, and it was clearly an emotional day for the 71-year-old.
