Dina Zholaman defeats Sakshi Choudhary in Asian Boxing Championship final

Dina Zholaman successfully turned Sakshi’s 3-2 victory lead in the last four stages, as India’s Sakshi Choudhary lost her final spot in the Asian Boxing Championship. The 54kg Indian boxer has lost her final spot as her rival Kazakh Dina Zholaman challenged the narrow victory that the two-time youth world champion had chased in the last four stages. In starting stage Sakshi had prevailed 3-2 lead in the regulation bout but the decision was completed by the Kazakh team and eventually overturned.

The Asian Boxing Confederation announced that Kazakhstan’s Dina Zholaman defeated India’s Sakshi Choudhary at the women’s bantamweight (54kg).  Zholaman was declared winner in the official result sheet which came out at the end of the proceedings late on Thursday night.

A source from the Indian Contingent told PTI that the Kazakh team sought a review of the third round, which it felt should have been scored in the favour of their boxer. In the review Jury found their contention to be correct and overturned the original verdict. The Asian International Boxing Association said that if the Technical Delegate determines, after consulting the Bout review Jury, that the protest should be allowed to proceed then the bout will be reviewed by the Jury – the Observer, the Referee Evaluator and the Judge Evaluator.
