Director Bryan Fuller all set for cinematic adaption of Stephen King’s novel

Director Fuller’s first full-length feature film, based on King’s novel set in the late 1970s will be produced by Sony Pictures and Blumhouse

Brian Fuller, who previously worked on popular shows like Hannibal, Star Trek: Discovery, and others, has been hired by Sony Pictures and Blumhouse to adapt Stephen King’s 1983 novel ‘Christine’. The film will also be produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse, along with producers Vincenzo Natali and Steven Hoban from Sony Pictures as the executive producers. Director Fuller, who is also currently writing the screenplay for the project, is reportedly in the early stages of development.

Director Bryan Fuller, who started his career as a screenwriter in 1997 by writing two episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has also adapted Stephen King’s novel, Carrie, for NBC as a television movie in the year 2002, which was directed by David Carson. However, Christine will be Fuller’s debut directorial feature film after having a successful career in television for almost three decades, including critically acclaimed projects like American Gods, Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, and Heroes.

The novel Christine has been adapted previously in the year 1983, which was directed by John Carpenter, written by Bill Phillips, and was produced by Columbia Pictures. The movie tells the story of a shy teenager Arnie Cunningham who comes out of his shell buying a classic red and white ’58 Plymouth Fury in order to fix it up. The car turns out to have a mind of its own, a possessive and jealous personality, as well as a bloody past and begins to change Arnie. The film had notable actors like Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, Harry Dean Stanton, and Robert Prosky. Stephen King, whose adaption of Lisey’s Story is taking place at Apple TV+, is expected to act as an executive producer for this project.
