Dmitry Peskov opens up about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India

On Tuesday, the press secretary for the Kremlin said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will shortly travel to India. Though no official dates were announced yet.

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s press secretary, stated, “Specific dates of President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India will soon be announced, and Russia will begin preparing for it.

“I hope soon we’ll work out the precise dates of his visit… Of course, after two visits of Prime Minister Modi to Russia, now we have a visit of the President to India, so we’re looking forward to it,” he also adds.

The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Putin on charges of war crimes in Ukraine. Nearly a year after the battle started, in March 2023, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Putin and Russia’s child rights commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova, for the alleged war crimes.

According to the Rome Statute, the court’s legally binding agreement, anyone who travels to a nation that is an ICC member state while under the authority of an ICC warrant must be arrested. India, however, has not ratified or signed the Rome Statute.

Thus, the former KGB agent cannot be taken into custody here. India has also declined to vote against Moscow on UN resolutions pertaining to the war in Ukraine on multiple occasions.
