Does Jared Verse ‘hate’ Eagles fans?

Rams linebacker Jared Verse added some extra intensity to the upcoming playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday with a bold statement about Eagles fans. In an interview with LA Times reporter Gary Klein, Verse, who hails from Pennsylvania, openly declared, “I hate Eagles fans.”

This heated remark comes ahead of the high-stakes playoff game, where the winner will secure a spot in the NFC championship. As a rookie, Verse will undoubtedly be under the microscope of the Eagles’ passionate home crowd.

Why Jared Verse Says He Hates Eagles Fans

Verse explained why he feels this way about the Eagles fans, saying, “They’re so annoying” and admitting that just seeing the green and white colors of the Eagles’ jerseys makes him genuinely upset. “I actually get hot,” he added.

Verse has been making waves in his rookie season, tallying 66 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He’s one of the top contenders for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, having been selected 19th overall by the Rams in the 2024 NFL Draft.

His disdain for Eagles fans likely stems from a previous encounter earlier this season when the Rams lost to the Eagles 37-20 on November 24. During that game, Eagles fans in SoFi Stadium were particularly hostile toward Verse, even though he hadn’t done anything to provoke them. “It was my first time playing them, and I hated it,” he said.

Even Eagles running back Saquon Barkley weighed in, calling Verse’s comments probably not the “smartest thing to say.” Rams head coach Sean McVay, however, defended Verse, saying he was simply expressing his feelings. By Friday, Verse woke up to a flood of reactions from Eagles fans on social media. When asked if he still stood by his comments, Verse downplayed the situation, saying, “That was the past.”

Jared Verse was born in Dayton, Ohio, but grew up in Berwick, Pennsylvania, about an hour away from Scranton. The closest NFL team to Berwick is the Philadelphia Eagles, which likely made Verse familiar with their fanbase.

Verse attended Central Columbia High School in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, where he played tight end. He spent three seasons with the Albany Great Danes, redshirting his freshman year. In 2022, he transferred to Florida State, where he proved himself as a standout linebacker and solidified his status as a top NFL prospect.
