Former English cricket team captain Michael Vaughan advised his country’s side not to worry more about the Ashes series scheduled in the month of December. Rather, he urged the England team management to focus to field a tough side for the upcoming test series against the ‘black caps’ at home.
England is expected to come up with a different playing XI against the Kiwis as their players like Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, and Moeen Ali, who were part of the now-suspended IPL 2021, have been given extended time off by the ECB. On the other hand, England’s speed star Jofra Archer and all-rounder Ben Stokes will be missing the series due to the injuries they are facing.
With so many key players unavailable, the former England captain wants the English side to return to a winning streak by fielding the best playing XI after they got thrashed by the India side in India earlier this year.
Michael, speaking in the Tuffers and Vaughan podcast said, “Don’t worry about six months, just try to win now, (England boss) Chris Silverwood just has to make the right call and pick a team that can win. It was like a different game out in India, but when you are only seven Tests away from an Ashes you just have to get back to winning ways.”
England will be facing New Zealand in a two-match test series starting from tomorrow.
