On Saturday, Guruprasad Mohapatra, the Secretary of Department of Industry Trade (DPIIT), died due to post-COVID-19 complications. Guruprasad, 59, had been admitted to AIIMS in the mid of April and he was the first serving secretary to the Government of India who had been succumbed to COVID-19. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed his grief over the demise of the secretary.
He said in a tweet, “Saddened by the demise of Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, DPIIT Secretary,” the prime minister added to that saying that he worked with him extensively in Gujarat and at the Centre. He mentions about the late. Mohapatra, “He had a great understanding of administrative issues and was known for his innovative zeal.” Narendra Modi gave his condolences to Mohapatra’s family and friends.

The Home Minister; Amit Shah, the Commerce and Industry Minister; Piyush Goyal, and the Cabinet Secretary; Rajiv Gauba also expressed their condolences.
The home minister in his tweet said that Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra was a very able and hardworking officer to which he added that his untimely demise was very saddening and he gave his condolences to the family and friends of Mohapatra.

The Cabinet Minister, Piyush Goyal, also mentioned in a tweet said about the demise of the DPIIT Secretary and said that he was saddened over the loss of Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra. The minister also mentioned about Mohapatra’s work and said that his service and dedication towards the Nation has left a lasting impact on everyone. He conveyed his deepest sympathies to Mohapatra’s family and friends.

Guruprasad Mohapatra was of the 1986-batch Gujarat cadre IAS Officer and had taken over as DPIIT secretary in August 2019. He had also served as the chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
