Dubai princess secretly records video, says she’s being held hostage

According to a BBC documentary, Princess Latifa, the daughter of UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Makhtoum, secretly recorded videos where she claimed she was being held hostage.

Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed al Makhtoum was last seen taking a yacht from the coast of India in 2018 and was captured and taken back to Dubai by Indian and Emirati forces. She said in the videos that she is held hostage in a “villa converted into a jail.” She first tried to flee the UAE in 2002 when she was a teenager. In the video Princess Latifa says, “I’m a hostage. This villa has been converted into a jail. All the windows are barred shut. I can’t open any window….I’ve been by myself, solitary confinement. No access to medical help, no trial, no charge, nothing.”

Princess Latifa recorded the videos herself in a locked bathroom. In another video she says she has been held hostage in the villa for over a year.
