Due to rise in Covid-19 Mumbai Cricket Association postpones their local T20 league

MCA on Thursday has declared that they will be deferring the Mumbai T20 league due to rise of the Covid-19 cases in India. The third edition of the league was supposed to be held on the first week of June.

The MCA president Vijay Patil stated “In view of the current Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country and keeping in mind the safety and interests of all the stakeholders involved, the MCA has decided to defer the conduct of the third edition of the T20 Mumbai League till further notice.”

The chairman and personal assistant of Chief Minister Milind Narvekar tweeted “Given the current situation, President Vijay Patil Ji and I, in my capacity as the Chairman, have decided to not conduct the T20 Mumbai League till further notice. This is our way to reduce the load on the machinery and also making sure everyone is safe.”

He also added “Personally, being the secretary of the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey it is my moral duty to not hold a league like this at this point in time when all our energies should be focused on saving as many lives as possible, rather than thinking about profits.”

The BCCI interim CEO Hemang Amin had already sent an email permitting to the various state associations “to hold their respective T20 leagues as soon as IPL is over.”
