Dulquer Salmaan clears air on Lokah OTT rumours after record-breaking success

Malayalam blockbuster Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra has shattered box office records, but producer Dulquer Salmaan has clarified that the film is not heading to OTT anytime soon, despite rumours linking it to Netflix.

Malayalam cinema’s latest sensation, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, continues its unstoppable theatrical run, crossing ₹271 crore worldwide within a month of release. Directed by Dominic Arun, the fantasy film stars Kalyani Priyadarshan as a yakshi named Chandra and Naslen in a pivotal role.

Amid the success, speculation about an early OTT release spread quickly online, with many reports suggesting Netflix would premiere the film in multiple languages this month. Dulquer Salmaan, who produced the film under Wayfarer Films, put an end to the chatter by issuing a clear statement on X. “Lokah isn’t coming to OTT anytime soon. Ignore the fake news and stay tuned for official announcements! #Lokah #WhatstheHurry,” he wrote.

Wayfarer Films also reinforced his message by reposting the clarification and publishing a list of theatres still showcasing the film across Kerala. Fans rallied behind the announcement, with several urging filmmakers to enforce longer theatrical windows to protect the industry. One fan commented, “When a movie is theatrically performing, the OTT release should not be shared.”

Lokah is the first part of a five-film franchise. While Kalyani headlines this chapter, the sequel will see Tovino Thomas as Chathan, a goblin character. Dulquer is expected to join the saga as an odiyan, while Mammootty, who voiced Moothon in the first film, may return in later instalments.
