ECB has denied accepting a request from BCCI to reschedule Test series in order to provide a window for the IPL

The England Cricket Board announced on Friday that the BCCI has made no request to reschedule the Test series between the two countries.

The England Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Friday that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not made any official request to reschedule the two nations’ Test series. Earlier, media sources said that the BCCI has asked the ECB to postpone the Test series in order to accommodate the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. The ECB, on the other hand, has disputed claims that the BCCI had approached the board with a request to reschedule the original Test schedule.

An ECB spokeswoman stated that the English cricket body is in constant contact with the BCCI but has not received any official request about the rescheduling of the Test series in order to provide a window for the remaining IPL 2021 matches. The ECB spokeswoman stated that they speak with the BCCI on a regular basis, particularly about the issues created by the COVID-19 epidemic, but that “no formal request to modify dates has been received and the five-match Test series is continuing to be planned as scheduled.”

The British media claimed on Thursday that the BCCI had approached the ECB with a proposal to move the Test series between India and England to create a window for the now-postponed IPL 2021. In August, India will play a five-match Test series against England. The Test series is due to conclude on September 14, however media sources have stated that the BCCI has urged the ECB to move the last match to September 7. The timeframe is favorable for the BCCI to hold the remaining IPL matches because no team is scheduled to play an international bilateral series between September and mid-October as of May 21.
